Princeton, NJ (November 8, 2007) --
Cablevision reported 3rd Quarter earnings today which
included a 16,000 decline in net basic TV subs to about
3,122,000 which is a decline of about one half of one percent.
Cablevision also reported about a $79 million loss for the third
quarter condensed consolidated operations data. Cablevision
indicated that it had 898,000 HD subs or more than 28
percent of all TV subs. Cablevision currently offers 42 HD
channels. The Cablevision COO stated that Cablevision plans
on adding more HD channels and with switched digital video technology,
which Cablevision has tested, Cablevision will have the capacity
to offer all HD channels available.
The Cablevision press release stated that Voom HD Networks
had 1,800,000 viewing subs. If Cablevision HD subs are 898,000,
that would indicate that Dish Network has 902,000 HD subs.
The Voom HD Networks are available to all Dish HD subs.
Dish Network has never disclosed its number of HD subs.
If the number of Dish Network HD subs is 902,000, Dish Network
which reported about 13.585 million total subs in the 2nd Quarter, would
have an HD sub ratio of approximately little more than 6 percent. The Dish
Network HD sub ratio would be much lower than Cablevision's
28 percent. Comcast recently reported that 5.8 millions subs
had HD or a DVR out of a total of 24.2 million subs or about 24 percent.
Directv in its 3rd Quarter earnings release did not indicate how
many subs had HD or HD and a DVR.
